Survey Methodology
Last updated: 1 November 2026
India Opinion is a product of Brain Hub. This page explains how polls in the India Opinion app work and how to read their results.
1. What a poll result is
Each result shows how registered users of the app answered a question. Participants choose to take part, so they are a self-selected group. Results are not weighted and are not adjusted to match the population by age, gender, region or any other factor, so they are not representative of India, a State or a constituency. Please do not treat them as a prediction of any election.
2. Who can vote
- You must be 18 or older and sign in with a mobile number verified by a one-time password (OTP).
- One person, one account and one vote per question. You can vote only once on each question.
- Constituency questions are answered from the Lok Sabha constituency you chose at sign-up, which is then locked.
- Voting is free. No payment is required for, or linked to, voting, and payments never change any result.
3. How results are aggregated
- Totals are simple counts of live votes for each answer option, shown as numbers and percentages.
- State and national figures are the sum of votes from the constituencies inside that area. On maps, an area with no votes stays blank ("No data"), and equal leading options are shown as a tie.
- Only anonymous aggregate totals are published. Individual votes are never shown with anyone's identity, and very small samples may be withheld to protect privacy.
- Optional breakdowns (for example by age group, gender or community) are also aggregate counts only.
- Historical snapshots are saved as they were and are not rewritten later.
4. Integrity checks
We use OTP verification, rate limits and hashed (one-way) security signals to reduce duplicate accounts and automated voting, and we may cancel votes from accounts that break our Terms of Use. These checks reduce abuse but cannot guarantee that every vote is genuine.
5. ECI blackout periods (Sections 126 and 126A)
India Opinion is designed to follow the restrictions in the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (source: India Code, Ministry of Law and Justice) and the ECI notifications published at www.eci.gov.in:
- Section 126A (exit polls): during the period the ECI notifies for each election, from the start of poll in the first phase until half an hour after the close of poll in the last phase, no exit-poll result may be published.
- Section 126 (48-hour silence period): election matter, which the ECI treats as including opinion-poll results, may not be displayed in the 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of poll in a polling area.
Blackout windows are set from each ECI notification. During a window, results for the affected questions (tallies, percentages, maps and shareable result cards) are automatically hidden. Voting may continue, but results are shown again only after the window ends. India Opinion never conducts exit polls: we do not ask how anyone actually voted at a polling station.
